Headteacher's Welcome

WELCOME TO TOWNHILL JUNIOR SCHOOL

Welcome to TJS and what we hope will be the beginning of an exciting and valuable journey, where your child and you will become part of the Townhill Junior School community. We hope that this website will be of some help to give you an insight into the routines of life here at school and to give you a brief overview of important policies, procedures and processes that we follow. It is designed to give an introduction to what you need to know about the school, however it is in no way an exhaustive view on everything, this is because schools are always changing and although we endeavour to keep this as up to date as possible, sometimes problems do arise. Therefore if in doubt of any information or you would just like to clarify something that is going on at school, please contact the office and we will let you know the latest details.

Mr N Humphries
Headteacher

At TJS we believe that every child is extraordinary and that education has the capacity and the possibility to change lives for the better. Here, teaching and learning is built upon a foundation that is inclusive, supportive, challenging and empowering. We promote high expectations, aspirations and an intense engagement in learning. This supports learners in establishing the values, skills and knowledge through which they will be able to achieve success, gain fulfilment in the future and become lifelong learners in order that they may flourish.

As a result we seek to establish an environment that encourages individual and collective flourishing. This is based around our six key Learning Values:

  • Positive
  • Curious
  • Reflective
  • Sociable
  • Resourceful
  • Resilient

We also believe that effective learning is underpinned by the development of a central core of dispositions that are supported and enacted within this learning environment, where individual needs are met and talents and interests are encouraged.

To do this best we understand that education is a partnership between child, parent and school and as such will endeavour to build communication as much as possible between home and school.

Whilst every effort is made to provide as much information as possible for parents, both in communications on the website and through regular newsletters and meetings, please do not hesitate to contact the school whenever you have a matter to discuss. In order to ensure that either the Head or the appropriate teacher is available for discussion, it is advisable to telephone the school and arrange an appointment.

We believe that in being part of TJS your child will have the opportunity to be involved in something very special in a community where education really matters and where they will have every opportunity to become better learners, increase their life chances and develop themselves as learners for the future. We hope that your child’s time at TJS will be enjoyable, interesting and engaging whilst giving them something that they can take with them into the future in whatever they choose to do.
