We are very proud to be part of the Southampton Reading Charter.  This is a pledge to enable all children within our school to have access to a high-quality reading education.  We place great importance on reading and this year we will be working on achieving our Silver Award, having achieved the Bronze award in 2025.  The staff at our school are committed to building a reading for pleasure culture and ensuring that all children can read fluently and confidently, enabling them to access their future education and take enjoyment from reading.

In order to gain the Bronze Award we achieved the following:

• Developed a reading spine of high-quality texts that are used across our school
• Improved our school reading environments and library
• Ensured story time is happening across the school
• Provided pupils with opportunities to read daily
• Carried out a pupil reading for pleasure survey to find out how we can develop this further in our school
• Provided staff with training on building a reading for pleasure culture and the teaching of reading

We now move onto working towards the Silver Award with the details shown below. At the end of the year our progress against the charter will be reviewed by reading leads from other schools in Southampton. We look forward to sharing more with you soon about our progress towards achieving The Southampton Reading Charter Silver Award.
